UCL: Research Grant and Fund Management System

Applied Software Development is a CS module I pursued while studying abroad at University College London, in the Spring of 2017. Its main component, the group project (70% of assessment), consisted of developing an application for a real-world client, and delivering a fully-fledged software solution along with detailed user and developer manuals, bi-weekly progress reports, and a plan for potential future enhancements.

Our client, Mark Burgess, required a new system to manage the Research Service Department’s information on individual students and research award allocations. The old management system was both confusing and complicated; all the research award information on allocations and students were stored in hundreds of excel sheets lacking data normality. Managing all this information was both slow and prone to data-integrity errors. The main issues that needed to be addressed were improving efficiency in accessing data, adding data, and maintaining data.
